adidas Predator LZ Black/Neo Iron Metallic/Lab Lime UEFA Champions League Colorway

Every year there are a couple of certainties in life that just don’t change; the release of a new FIFA, the start of a new domestic season, and a UEFA Champions League colorway for each of the adidas boot silos, namely the Predator range. This year, despite drastic changes to the Predator in the form of the new LZ, we’ve been treated to the same thing and this year the colorway is a Black/Metallic Silver/Lab Lime.

While the new Predator may be packed with technology, and is like none of its predecessors, adidas have given the Lethal Zones this iconic paint job that should please all the Predator fans. As the name suggests, the new Predator’s feature five ‘lethal zones’ – sweet spot, first touch, pass, drive and dribble.

As was expected, adidas have made the Lethal Zones miCoach compatible by adding a cavity on the soleplate of the boot. They’ve also incorporated the Traxion 2.0 stud configuration as well as a Sprintframe outsole for stability and light weight.

adidas used an innovative hype up campaign that much to our pleasure utilized the fact that the Predator Lethal Zones were, much like the adiPowers, one of the worst kept secrets of the football boot world. By launching a new zone periodically, adidas successfully built up the hype around the most un-Predator like Predator to date. The reason we call the Lethal Zones the most un-Predator like Predator is simply because the boot no longer focuses solely on power and accuracy. Instead, the light weight and all the zones mean that the Predator now competes partially in the speed, control and power categories.

Gerrard was/is not actually the first professional to wear them as that title goes to Gustavo Manduca of APOEL from Cyprus who debuted them at the end of June. Nor will he be the last marquee player (no disrespect to Manduca!) to do so either as you can expect to see this colorway replace the ever present Blue/Infrared launch colorway that have dominated pitches around the globe since the boots’ release.

Soccer Reviews’ in-depth adidas Predator LZ review rates the control/power hybrid boot very highly, so if you want more information, go check out the review!
