Nike are expected to launch a whole spate of new colourways during March, with the Mercurial Vapor IX set to receive an interesting paint job. It seems that the American brand have already begun rolling out the colourway to its sponsored athletes, as we have spotted Barcelona winger, Alexis Sanchez, in the yet to be released blue/yellow/pink colourway during training.
This latest colourway is definitely a flashy release from Nike, with the colour combination reminding us more of The Little Mermaid than anything football related. Despite its aquatic tones, we’re sure we’ll see a lot of professionals in the boot come its official release. The Mercurial Vapor IX has been a well received boot overall, with the biggest change from its predecessor being the dimpled upper. The dimples are meant to increase friction between ball and boot, for better touch and feel.
Interestingly enough, while looking at training photos from other teams, Alexis seems to be the only player that has made the switch into the Mermaid colourway. The Chilian, who played with Udinese before joining Barcelona, has been the source of much speculation this season, with a number of clubs said to be interested in acquiring his services. However, a stellar performance against Deportivo last weekend could have Barcelona second guessing any offers they receive.
