Title races, amazing goals, controversy. It was another amazing weekend of football action, and Soccer Reviews has your first boot spotting article from this weekend’s action. From Europe to the USA, which spots made it through to make it to this week’s article?
Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich) – adidas adiPure III
It’s not often that we see a headline player for a football boot wear something other than the boot that he is the face of! Even though Bastian Schweinsteiger has been the face of the new adiPure 11Pro, the German wore a pair of White/Black/Red adiPure IIIs as Bayern Munich took on Hoffenheim. We think this is a one off, but could it be a sign of a player revolt against the adiPure 11Pro as it doesn’t have a K-Leather upper?
Daniel Sturridge (Chelsea) – Nike T90 Laser IV
Daniel Sturridge has been one of a number of players who has made the switch to the T90 Laser IV range this season. While Sturridge has been wearing the Grey/Red/Black T90 Lasers since they were released a little while ago, Sturridge opted to wear the White/Orange/Black launch colourway this weekend against Stoke. It’ll be interesting to see over the next few weeks whether Sturridge will wear the new T90 Laser colourway that will be released soon.
Shay Given (Aston Villa) – Puma PowerCat 1.12
The new Puma PowerCat 1.12 has breathed new life into the PowerCat range and if there was an award for the most improved football boot of the year, the PowerCat 1.12 will certainly be a contender! Puma released the new Blue/White/Orange PowerCat 1.12 this week, and Shay Given made himself one of the first professional players to wear the new colourway. It’s a fantastic match with Aston Villa’s goalkeeper kit too!
Mahamadou Diarra (Fulham) – adidas Predator adiPower (Custom)
Former Real Madrid midfielder Mahamadou Diarra has worn a wide range of custom football boots throughout his career, and he seemingly doesn’t like to follow the crowd and pick a general release colourway. Diarra often creates boots that are inspired by the Mali national flag, but his latest selection seems to be more like a confusion of random colours!
Francisco Cerro (Velez Sarsfield) – adidas miCoach F50 adiZero
There are times when we leak a boot colourway that looks really good, but then we are disappointed when we find out it is in fact a women’s only colourway. When we started to see pictures of the White/Red/Blue miCoach F50 adiZero, we thought they would be a very popular colourway. Little did we know that they were in fact a women’s colourway. It seems Cerro could not resist the colourway, either that or he has small feet, as he was spotted in the sleek adiZero colourway.
Patrick Zwaanswijk (Central Coast Mariners) – Puma V1.11
Puma launched a new colourway on each of their three boot silos, and the V1.11 was treated to 2 new colourways. While we didn’t see anyone in the eccentic White/Pink colourway, Patrick Zwaanswijk was the first player to debut the new colourway after it’s launch. But Zwaanswijk isn’t the first player to wear the boot in a competitive match, the honour goes to Newcastle Jets’ Ryan Griffiths. The V1.11 is a strange boot choice from Zwaanswijk, who is a centre back by trade.
Bobby Convey (Sporting Kansas City) – Nike T90 Strike IV
Yes it may be a little on the plain side, but we are absolutely loving Bobby Convey’s customised White/Black T90 Strike IV colourway that the Sporting Kansas City player debuted this weekend. This week marked the opening weekend of the MLS, and Convey ditched the T90 Laser IIIs he was wearing last season in favour of his minimalistic yet stunning NikeID creation. Pity it’s too plain to be a general release colourway though.
Walter Gargano (Napoli) – adidas Predator adiPower (Custom)
Much like Bobby Convey’s T90 Strike IVs above, Napoli’s Walter Gargano has gone for a basic approach when he created his own miadidas Predator adiPowers. It’s virtually a blackout adiPower, save for the red laces and outlines of the heel counter and the studs. They appear to be a deadly football boot, and we’re loving Walter Gargano’s adiPowers more than Diarra’s!
Kevin Nolan (West Ham) – Puma King SL
The Puma King SL was the last boot to get a fresh colourway in what has been a busy week for Puma, and Puma have covered their bases by releasing a white Puma King SL as well as this new Black/Red colourway, meaning their is something for everyone in Puma’s lightweight Kangaroo Leather boot! Kevin Nolan was the first player we’ve spotted to be wearing the new boot, and it’ll be interesting to see if Mikel Arteta will make the move to the new boot any time soon.
Chance Myers (Sporting Kansas City) – adidas miCoach F50 adiZero
Despite the F50 adiZero being one of the hottest football boots around at the moment, there are some colourways that are pushed out of the limelight in favour for some of the more ‘mainstream’ colourways. The Slime/Black/Chrome colourway has had very little publicity from adidas, and Chance Myers is in fact the first player we’ve seen wearing the boots. We wonder whether we could see a greater player uptake of the boot in the next few weeks.
That’s it for this week’s boot spotting. What was your favourite spot this week? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Its great to see Puma doing so well. I have been fighting back and forth against whether I should go for my trusty Diadora Maracana’s or try some Puma V.Speeds before they change to Evo Speeds.
Schweinsteiger never really switched into the AdiPure IVs let alone the 11Pros
also worth noting that Sturridge has been spotted wearing the adidas miCoach F50 adiZero this season.
manuel neuer also switched from predators to adipure 11 pros
Hello Jordon. Apparently, Shay Given was not the first professional player to switch to the new Powercat colourway. Phil Jones wore the new colourway in the game against Athletic Bilbao. http://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/58966000/jpg/_58966071_llorente_getty.jpg
