Boot spotting: 14th November

While the miCoach adiZero was the most talked about boot of the weekend, there was still loads of decent spots out there this week! Soccer Reviews compiled the best spots to make our boot spotting article the only thing that makes your Monday bearable.

Joao Pereira (Portugal) – Puma V1.11

The miCoach adiZero wasn’t the only boot to make it’s full debut this weekend. Puma have marked the international break by releasing the new Vibrant Yellow/Parachute Purple V1.11. The boot certainly looks bright on the feet of Joao Pereira, but we were surprised as some of the ‘bigger’ V1.11 stars, namely Yaya Toure and Samuel Eto’o, didn’t wear the new colourway.

Steve Morrison (Wales) – Puma PowerCat 1.12

The international break also saw the debut of another boot, Puma’s PowerCat 1.12. While it has been modelled for a few weeks by Cesc Fabregas and several EPL stars have worn whiteout editions of the boot, it’s the first weekend where other players have been allowed to wear the boot in full technicolour. Interestingly, Morrison has worn Puma Kings all season, and he has now fallen for the PowerCat 1.12, something we might see from a few Puma players.

Archie Thompson (Melbourne Victory) – Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly III

While the loud Volt Superfly often clashes with a lot of kits worn by players, it’s pretty hard to find a kit that actually matches with the boot. Melbourne Victory’s away kit is just as bright as Archie’s Volt Superflys and it actually provides a very nice match between the kit and the boots!

Jaime Robles (Bolivia) – adidas Copa Mundial

The Copa Mundials are an absolute classic, and it’s easy to understand why Robles has fallen for arguably the best boot of all time (well, it’s been around for over 25 years). But what caught our eye was Robles putting Sellotape over his laces. While it’s probably a way of making sure his laces don’t become untied, I wonder if this would affect his kicking at all…

Tarmo Kirk (Estonia) – Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly I

Ah, a flashback when the Superfly range was actually decent! While the Superfly range has come a long way since Tarmo Kirk’s boots were brand new, the bright yellow Superfly I was one of the very first bright Superfly colourways that hit the pitches. Today, it seems to be a prerequisite that each Superfly has to be bright!

Josley Prince (Dominica) – adidas Predator PowerSwerve

We always love to put in a Predator PowerSwerve boot spot as it’s always a little bit special, and the international break always throws up one or two boot spots like this. The Predator PowerSwerve was the last Predator that had the iconic lace cover, which was a highly controversial decision by adidas.

Phil Jones (England) – Puma PowerCat 1.12

Another boot switch, but perhaps not quite as publicised as some of the boot swaps we’ve seen this year. Despite being a loyal Puma King wearer, Phil Jones has now opted for the new PowerCat 1.12 as England overcame a resilient Spanish team. Actually, now is the time to be arrogant, we beat the world champions!

Hamis Kiiza (Uganda) – Nike Air Zoom Total 90 III

African football matches always throw up a nice retro boot spot, and this Air Zoom Total 90 III spot is no exception. Dating back to around 2004, the Air Zoom Total 90 III allowed the birth of the highly successful T90 Laser range. It’s nice to see Kiiza bring out such an old boot for us!

Sohib Savankulov (Tajikistan) – Puma V1.06

It’s not every day that we see a Puma V1.06 boot spot, and we see a boot spot from Tajikistan even less frequently! While it took us a little while to decipher the boots, the clean kicking surface and heel eventually led us to the V1.06, a boot released by Puma for the 2006 World Cup.

Lucas Barrios (Paraguay) – Puma V1.11 (Womens)

It’s not every day that you see a player wearing a female boot! We always thought that the women’s edition of the V1.11 was a very suave boot, and we always thought that we’d see one player wearing the boot! Barrios must be hoping that no one notices that he’s wearing the women’s boot that was released for the Women’s World Cup. He must have really small feet to fit into them…

Loic Remy (France) – Puma V1.08

It seems like I’ve got a lot of Puma spots today, but it’s just been that sort of weekend! While Remy’s V1.08s aren’t as old as the V1.06 spot above, Remy has still done a good job keeping them in the fine condition that they appear to be in!

That’s it for this week’s boot spotting. What was your favourite spot from this weekend’s action? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Barrios isnt wearing the woman’s version, he just painted his green v1.11 boots all white, as you can see, he didnt paint the tongue, and the paint wore off the studs. He probably did it to match his kit, even though there is a white colorway out as well … ?

  2. Woldstad

Lucas Barrios is not wearing the women’s v1.11. Look again.
