There definitely wasn’t a lack of headlines this week. From Balotelli’s stamp on Scott Parker, to Man Utd’s thrilling 2-1 over Arsenal and the start of the African Cup of Nations, it certainly wasn’t a boring weekend of football. Soccer Reviews has searched this week’s action and brought out the boot spots that caught our eye this week. Take a look at which spots got our approval this week.
Gareth Barry (Manchester City) – adidas adiPure 11Pro
Even though the adidas adiPure 11Pro was released last week, it’s taken us until this week to feature an EPL footballer wearing the new, feature-packed boots. Gareth Barry won the honour of being the first EPL player to wear the adiPure 11Pro, as he wore the Black/White/Slime colourway of the boots. Considering there have been mixed messages about whether the adiPure 11Pro will feature Taurus or K-Leather, it’ll be interesting to find out which material is used for Barry’s boots.
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool) – Umbro Geometra Pro
We saw a host of European footballers wearing new Umbro colourways last weekend, we didn’t see very many English based players wearing the new colourways rolled out onto the Geometra Pro and GT Pro II. But Jordan Henderson was one of those players, as he wore the White/Black/Kingfisher Geometra Pro, which provides a brilliant match with his Liverpool home kit.
Hugo Rodallega (Wigan) – Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II (Custom)
Sometimes, customised boots are pretty hard to decipher from the regular colourways, take the Naohiro Ishikawa customised adiZero boot spot from the 2nd of January boot spotting article, which saw many people confusing it with the regular White/Blue/Slime adiZero. But there’s no doubt that Rodallega’s Superfly IIs have been customised! This isn’t the first time we’ve seen it, as we last saw them when he wore them against West Ham last year.
Andres Rouga (Venezuela) – Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly III
We always wonder why some players seem to wear boots that are made especially for a certain footballer. There’s always one or two players who wear DB Predators, but there are now a few players around wearing CR7’s range of Mercurials. Venezuela’s Andres Rouga is the latest to wear the latest CR7 boot, but we don’t think he is secretly wearing the Vapor VIII like the player who the boot was made for.
Morten Gamst Pedersen (Blackburn) – adidas Predator adiPower (Custom)
Several camera angles and quite a lot of time was needed to decipher MGP’s boots this weekend. We originally thought it was the adiPure III, but this camera angle shows MGP could have a Sprint Frame outsole, which indicates MGP is wearing a customised Predator adiPower. We still aren’t a 100% sure, but we’d love to know what you think it is. It looks like a very classy boot as well!
David Trezeguet (River Plate) – Nike Tiempo Legend IV Elite (Custom)
David Trezeguet has played for several clubs in the past few years, but the French-Argentine footballer has now made a move to River Plate, who are now playing in Argentina’s second division. Trezeguet scored on debut in his club’s friendly against Racing Club, but it’s his classy whiteout White/Gold/Volt Tiempo Legend IV Elite that caught our eye. They look absolutely brilliant, while the volt coloured studs ensure the boot just stands out just that little bit.
Unknown – adidas Predator LZ
It’s still a while away until it’s officially launched, but this lucky footballer has got his hands on the yet to be released Infared/Black/Running White adidas Predator LZ. We aren’t too sure of his name or what team he plays for, but we do think he plays for a side in Eastern Europe. Can someone clear it up for us?
Scott McDonald (Middlesbrough) – adidas Predator adiPower
Joey Barton isn’t the only footballer who has decided to get the black texta out and colour in half of his adiPower boot. Middlesbrough striker Scott McDonald has followed Joey Barton (or did Joey Barton get the idea from Scott McDonald) and coloured in the three adidas stripes on the outside of his Black/Warning adiPower boots.
Connor Wickham (Sunderland) – Umbro GT Pro II
The Umbro GT Pro was said to be a quality boot that was heavily under-rated, and the new GT Pro II is said to be even better than it’s predecessor. Connor Wickham and Kyle Walker are arguably the two biggest names in the GT Pro II, and the former made the switch to the new Silver/Red GT Pro II colourway. And talk about fantastic colour co-ordination as well, the colourway seems to be tailor made for the Sunderland kit!
Clarence Seedorf (AC Milan) – adidas adiPure 11Pro
While the adiPure IV was still around, Seedorf wasn’t one to update his boots to the latest colourways all the time. In fact, he only updated the colours of his boots 3 times during the adiPure IV era. But the arrival of the new adiPure 11Pro has seen Seedorf go for the White/Black/Red colourway. It looks fantastic with the AC Milan kit, and we wonder whether Seedorf will still be around when the next generation in the adiPure family is launched.
That’s it for this week’s boot spotting. What was your favourite spot this week? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
