Today’s boot spotting article is a slightly weird one as three of the featured subjects are not players at all, rather a comedian, a referee, and a manager. However, we do of course have ‘regular’ boot spots to go along with it, so without further adieu, here is our August 6th, 2011 boot spotting.
James Corden (Comedian)- Umbro Speciali
During the cracking Community Shield match-up between Manchester United and Manchester City, the half time show was graced by a team of comedians, including the hilarious James Corden. If you haven’t yet seen his greatest video, go and check it out now (actually after you finish this boot spotting article). He was wearing a very old pair of Umbro Specialis during his brief stint at Wembley.
Ashley Young (Manchester United)- adidas F50 adiZero Leather
While we could have found images that better showed Ashley Young’s boot choice, we felt we couldn’t omit this one from the site due to its funny nature. It seems eerily similar to one particular moment shared by Carlos Tevez and Rio Ferdinand earlier on in the year… The winger is beginning to make the left side his own as he continues to put in solid performances for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side and is on track to be another great piece of business from the Scot.
Phil Dowd (Referee)- Nike Tiempo Legend IV
Despite their key role in the game of football, referees are hardly ever featured for their boot spots, so we decided we’d change that when we saw Phil Dowd sporting a brand new pair of the Nike Tiempo Legend IV football boots. While it seems refs lack personality and wear generic black boots, the Community Shield official proves to us that those in his line of work do in fact care about their footwear (ask Jordon).
Jordi Gomez (Wigan Athletic)- Lotto Fuerzapura II
In a very interesting boot choice, Wigan’s Jordi Gomez was spotted wearing the Lotto Fuerzapura II football boots. We haven’t seen many players sporting the Italian brand’s boots, but they do look great on the pitch! Roberto Martinez will be hoping the boots help his player safely steer Wigan from relegation this upcoming campaign.
Adrian Lopez (adidas Copa Mundial)- Wigan Athletic
Despite being one of the most popular boots of all time, the adidas Copa Mundials aren’t seen on the feet of too many professional footballers anymore, so when we see someone wearing them, we automatically feature them in our next boot spotting article. This time around, Wigan’s Adrian Lopez was spotted wearing the classic boots from the ‘Three Stripes’.
Isaac Osbourne (Nike Air Zoom Total 90 III)- Aberdeen
Coonor Woodford sent in this great photo, as he thought you would enjoy this retro boot spot on show here! The classic Nike Air Zoom Total 90 III (released to coincide with Euro 2004) on the feet of Aberdeen’s Isaac Osbourne as they took on Celtic yesterday, but they unfortunately lost 1-0.
Roberto Mancini (Manchester City) – Nike Tiempo Legend IV
Just like Phil Dowd, Mancini has also settled for the softness of the Tiempo Legend IV. However, Mancini’s method of customizing his boots isn’t exactly orthodox. Mancini must have forgotten to tell Nike that he wanted his boots to be customized with the word ‘boss’ and had to settle with writing the word on the heel of his boots in Texta!
Ronnie Stam (adidas F50 adiZero)- Wigan Athletic
We hope Wigan continue to offer such great boot spots over the course of the season as Ronnie Stam was yet another Lactic to have an interesting boot choice. The player was wearing the watermelon edition of the first adidas F50 adiZero football boots.
Mohamed Diame (adidas adiPure IV)- Wigan Athletic
We haven’t see too many players wearing adiPures lately, and for those who haven’t switched into the adidas adiPower, hardly any wear the red colorway of the classic football boots. However, Mohamed Diame wore the boots in his side’s victory over Villarreal.
That’s it for today’s boot spotting. Same as ever, if you ever want to send in good boot spots and have your name be featured in a Soccer Reviews post, drop an email at [email protected]

Anyone know why Yaya Toure and Mario keep on wearing the same boots for the best part of the last 2 seasons?
anyone know why only few players wear adipure SL or adipower SL?
Because the SL series is designed mainly for consumers rather than professionals.
Hope that helps.
