It’s squeaky bum time for many teams across Europe as most leagues descend into the final weeks of their 2010/11 season. This week we were treated to some epic midweek and weekend fixtures and along with these games we were treated to some great boot spots and Soccer Reviews are the first on the web to bring them to you. Let’s get stuck in:
Fredy Montero (Seattle Sounders) – Adidas F50 adiZero chrome/black/warning
Like the blue Superfly IIIs, we hardly ever seen this adiZero colourway being worn. However, we’ve spotted Fredy Montero of the Sounders wearing these boots in what honestly is a pretty underrated colourway.
Davide Chiumiento (Vancouver Whitecaps) – Adidas F50 adiZero
One of the great things about the MLS is the amount of unusual boots you see players wearing. This was certainly the case for Chiumiento as he was spotted wearing a pair of white/black/green adiZeros with the stripes blacked out.
Dennis Ifunaoa (Solomon Islands) – Nike Mercurial Miracles
Here at Soccer Reviews we scour the globe for unique boot spots and we’ve found one here at the U20 Oceanic Championships, Dennis Ifunaoa was spotted wearing a throwback pair of Nike Mercurial Miracles.
Guy Moussi (Nottingham Forest) – Nike T90 Laser III black/silver/vibrant yellow
We don’t know who this player is but we’ve spotted him wearing a Laser III colourway that we hardly ever see on the feet of professional footballers.
Joe Cole (Liverpool) – Nike Tiempo Legend III
Joe Cole made an immediate impact coming off the bench and scoring a goal for Liverpool doing so while wearing personalized red Nike Tiempo Legends.
Yossi Benayoun (Chelsea)- Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly Orion Blue
The Israeli has had an injury plagued season, but he’ll be hoping to get back to form wearing his original Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly in the orion blue colorway, despite the third edition of the speed boot being available.
Adlene Guedioura (Wolves)- White Out adiZero and Aaron Hughes (Fulham)- Mizuno Morelia
A double boot spot here as Guedioura of Wolverhampton battled it out in a pair of adiZero white out football boots against the Mizuno Morelia wearer, Aaron Hughes of Fulham. Due to the shape of the boot, first predictions regarding the Wolves’ player’s boots would have to be the Adidas F50 adiZero.
William Gallas (Tottenham)- Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly and Carlos Vela (West Brom)- Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II
An interesting boot spot shows two completely different players both wearing older versions of the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly range. The young striker, Carlos Vela is in the Superfly II pink colorway while a defender in the latter stages of his career, William Gallas is in the original Superfly’s orion blue color scheme.
Peter Odemwingie (West Brom)- Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II with RED Laces and Chris Brunt (West Brom)- Puma Powercat
West Brom offered a whole ton of boot spots, and this picture here is fantastic as we see one player sporting a new colorway of the Puma Powercat, one player in a pair of Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly II’s with RED laces, and the third wearing the old Adidas F50 adiZero in the cyan blue colorway.
Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham)- Custom Nike CTR360 Maestri II and Chris Brunt (West Brom)- Puma Powercat
We’ve already featured Chris Brunt in his new colorway of the Puma Powercats, and the white/yellow CTR360 colorway has become the norm on pitches around the world, so the reason we are including this boot spot is Tom Huddlestone’s customized sole plate. We’ve already seen Andres Iniesta in CTR’s with the unique stud configuration and white bottom, and it seems Nike are allowing more players to test out their new idea. We’ll definitely keep you updated on the situation.
Asamoah Gyan (Sunderland)- Adidas F50 adiZero
The Ghanaian star settled into life in the EPL well, scoring goals with ease, but since the turn of the year, the striker has looked like a fish out of water for Sunderland. He’ll be hoping that reverting back to the original Adidas F50 adiZero will help him find the form that the Blackcats paid for.
Sulley Muntari (Sunderland)- Custom Nike CTR360 Maestri II
It seems like Huddlestone isn’t the only player being given special Nike CTR360 Maestri II’s, as Sully Muntari joins him with a customized pair of his own. This angle gives a better shot of the boots and their sole plate, and at first glance, it looks vaguely familiar to the Traxion sole plate featured on the adiZero. This could be a marketing move by Nike to change their Elite boots’ sole plates from carbon fiber, a stiffer more expensive option, to some other material that will be cheaper and just as light.
Marc Wilson (Stoke City)- Lotto Zhero Evolution Tre
Stoke City’s Marc Wilson offered a fantastic boot spot this weekend in his side’s clash with Aston Villa as he turned up in a pair of Lotto Zhero Evolution Tre’s. The boots are a take down version of the Zhero Gravity, the world’s first laceless boot, but still offer fine quality as Ben’s review will attest.
Diniyar Bilyaletdinov (Everton)- Puma King Finale i
Although it may seem like a run of the mill boot spot, the Russian’s Puma King finale i’s have had their lace covers removed. It’s not too surprising as many people have complained about the lace cover’s size.
Jack Rodwell (Everton)- Adidas adiPure III
The powerful young English midfielder is one of the faces of the adiPure range in the UK, and has been wearing the adiPure IV, which makes it all the more surprising to see him switch back into an older model of the boot in his side’s match against Manchester United. It might have been in an effort to recapture is form of last year, a year in which he scored against the Red Devils!
Kevin Nolan (Newcastle United)- Puma King
Credit to SoccerReviews reader, Vincent, for this boot spot. Nolan has had a superb season this year for the Toon, and he hasn’t done it in a new technological boot, rather in one of the most classic boots on the market.
Younes Kaboul (Tottenham) – Nike Mercurial Superfly III
William Gallas unique boot choice of the Superfly’s rubbed off on Younes Kaboul, however now Kaboul has switched into the new model of the super light boots from the original Superfly’s which he was in for so long.
EXTRA
Hopefully you’ve read enough of these boot spotting posts to know to stick around till the end!
Unknown Rugby Player – Customized Yellow adiZeros (Credit for this great spot goes to Fredrik Enstad)
You may have already seen this one on Facebook if you have ‘liked’ our page (hint, hint) but here’s a rugby player in France wearing a pair of miAdidas adiZeros. He’s changed the laces to a seriously bright blue and we’re not sure if they really work with the yellow boot.
That’s it for our Saturday boot spotting, but rest assured, we will have another more European focused boot spotting article as well! It will now become the norm for us to post two boot spotting articles a week, one with Saturday boot spots, and another midweek boot spotting with the rest of the week’s!

Hi guys, Im pretty sure that rugby player is mathieu bastareaud. (careful how you spell it haha). Seen him in custom Pred X’s before. Im pretty sure also that he is also the cousin of William Gallas!!!
About that player from Notts Forest. That T90 colourway is used by refs quite a bit
