While David Villa has been in stunning form lately, Fernando Torres has failed to impress after coming back from a knee injury, and has looked to his old boots hoping for some luck.
Fernando Torres seems to be very superstitious with his football boots and there are a number of examples to prove this statement. When most Nike sponsored players were meant to be wearing the ‘Black Pack’, Torres wore the K-Leather White/Red Total 90 Laser II. When the Total 90 Laser III came out, Fernando Torres wore them once then decided to go back to his handy white and red K-Leather Laser II’s and eventually wore the Total 90 III’s after a couple of matches. Now, after three poor games with his custom Total 90 Laser III Elites, he has gone back to his White, Black and Gold K-Leather Laser III’s to hope to find some of the form he had wearing them while playing for Liverpool.
I find this very odd as going from a lighter boot to a heavier boot would be harder to adjust too, but it seems that Torres likes it better and sure did play better in the opening minutes of the Portugal match, but struggled towards the end of the game.
Will he go back to his Laser Elites? Or will we even see him on the bench, playing second fiddle for Spain’s and Atletic Bilbao’s Fernando Llorente (His last name is actually Torres, but he chose to use his middle name so he would not have the same name) who is in fantastic form and came near to scoring against Portugal?
