Due to the review of the miCoach F50 adiZero, our testing of the Puma v1.11 SL has been slightly delayed but here we have one of our most in-depth first impression posts to date!
As you know from our review of the Puma v1.10 SL, they were my favorite synthetic speed boot on the market, beating the synthetic adiZero and the Superfly IIs and even IIIs. The v1.11 SLs have big shoes to fill now, especially as they are the lightest ‘new’ speed boot for sale on the market. Now I have the v1.11 SL to review on the back of testing my favorite boot I have ever worn, the leather adidas miCoach F50 adiZero. Will it rise up and re-take the crown of best synthetic speed boot, or will it fall short?
Here’s how its gone so far.
I have to say, the first time I wore these boots, I just wanted to take them off. They felt very uncomfortable, and the new material and tounge shape were allowing for my foot to slide around. At first I was very disappointed with the fit and comfort, seeing as that was one of the things I liked about the v1.10 SL.
However, the last session that I wore them in, the boots just magically became comfortable. This may be due to the circumstances of a very nice pitch, and maybe the kind of sock I was using but I had a pleasant surprise and really enjoyed playing with them.
Now, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “How are they performing!?”
Well, due to the delay in the review we will give you a few more details in answer to that query. When striking the ball the new upper makes for a nice and less painful striking surface. The sole plate, flexibility and shape of the boot still aid for great dribbling that is reminiscent of the v1.10 SLs. At the moment, they are averagely comfortable but we believe more breaking in should make them one of the most comfortable synthetic speed boots on the market.

We hope you enjoyed our First Impressions post on the PUMA V1.11 SLs. Stay posted to Soccer Reviews for the review of these boots which will be up as soon as possible!

I’ve owned these boots for nearly five months and I couldn’t disagree more regarding your comfort gripes. For me, they required no breaking-in time and offer much more comfort than both leather and synthetic versions of the Adidas Adizero. As I play most of my football on artificial grass, these offer better durability than the Adizero, too. I’d have no hesitation in putting these forward as one of the best non-leather boots available to purchase.
Completely agree, Chris – the comfort in the v1.11 SL is amazing, and required next to no breaking in. The upper wraps around and almost moulds to your foot – it’s that soft. My only gripe is the length of the studs, which easily could be a mm longer.
To me, these are some of the most comfortable synthetic boots I’ve worn for a long, long time, and given that they’re speed boots (which often doesn’t have that great comfort), this is an achievement in itself. IMO it’s a marginally better boot than the Adizero and kicks the absolute **** out of the Superfly IIIs. My favourite pair of boots at the moment.
Looking forward to the rest of your review, always interesting to hear other people’s opinions on boots you really like.
Adidas predator LZ for sale!!! (might be fake)
@jay. @Chris interested in buying these boots. Do they fit a wide foot and what size would you recommend if I wear a 10 1/2 in Nike? I have read that these are the most under-rated boots on the market. Any insights would be appreciated.
I had to go up a full size. I’m a Europa size 40 (UK 6 1/2) in Nike, but had to go with a 41 (UK 7 1/2) in these. Not sure about them fitting a wide foot, as they are pretty narrow in the middle of the boot. I’m afraid they might be too narrow if you do have a wide foot. :/
It is true though – they are the one of the most underrated boots on the market, and deserve much more credit than they get.
I’m exactly the same as Jay. I’m a UK 6 in an Adidas Adizero, while the smallest the V1.11 SL comes in is a UK 7, but that fits me perfect. I have fairly wide feet too but I don’t have any problems with these, the material wraps round nicely. I think the comfort comes from the amount of give the synthetic allows. Hopefully more boots of this ilk follow suit.
