A brand new speed boot is set to join an already crowded light weight market in the coming weeks, the Hummel Rapid X Blade.
Hummel, a brand renowned for its old-school heritage boots, has taken its first dive into the speed boot market, and from what we have seen and heard, it doesn’t look to be a bad effort at all.
Featuring a lightweight synthetic upper, Hummel are hoping the X Blade propels them into the spotlight once again. The upper itself is crafted from one single piece of recycled synthetic, aiming to provide a comfortable fit for the wearer. The lacing system veers off to the outside of the boot to increase the kicking area, a popular choice among boot manufacturers at the moment. Beneath the laces sits a thin tongue that sits comfortably on the foot. The combination of the lacing system and tongue allow the boot to provide a snug fit around the foot, regardless of whether it is wide or narrow.
Hummel plan on releasing three different colourways, as you can see here. They feature three primary colours, black, white and orange.
The cleverly crafted ‘Cage Constructed’ heel counter aims to lock the heel in place for increased fit and stability. The sole-plate is riveted to the upper, helping to increase durability, while being made from a Thermoplastic Urethene (TPU) material to enhance comfort and traction. Like the Pele Sport latest release, the Trinity 3E, Hummel have designed the blades on the boot to help the wearer accelerate away from challenges.
Despite all these innovations though, the main sticking point with the strikingly named Hummel Rapid X Blade is the weight. Coming in at 260g (US Size 9), it quite simply does not compare to the recently released Adidas F50 AdiZero miCoach, Pele Sports Trinity and Mizuno Morelia Neo in terms of weight. However it makes up for this in terms of its price, which is expected to be sub-£100. This price bracket allows the boot to be compare to the Umbro GT Pro, and weight wise there is not much difference. Of course, a low weight is not everything, as shown by various boot manufacturers, most notably, Nike with the Superfly range.
With an expected release date of April, what do you think to Hummel’s latest release? Can it compare with the other recent speed boot releases? Leave your comments below, on Facebook, Twitter or Google+.
