Manchester United vs Sunderland Match SummaryAvatar of Ben Perkins

The most thrilling game on Saturday, October 3rd, in the 8th round of matches was the dazzling meeting between Manchester United’s Red Devil’s and the Black Cats of Sunderland. Here is SER’s summary of the scintillating match.

Upstart Sunderland came into the match with knowledge that they hadn’t beat Manchester United’s Red Devil’s at home (Old Trafford) since 1968. They came out with all guns blazing, taking the game to the home side, and it paid off early when Darren Bent, who happens to be at the top of his game at the moment, calmly slotted it past Ben Foster into the corner of the net. John O’Shea’s curling 51st-minute cross was perfectly met by Dimitar Berbatov’s overhead kick, which nestled in the bottom corner. Sunderland grabbed the lead once again, when Andy Reid’s sort lob was met by Kenwyne Jones’s head, who also collided with Ben Foster on the play. Sir Alex Ferguson was furious with the decision to allow the goal, as he thought it was a clear foul on his keeper. United manged however, to salvage a point when an off-target Patrice Evra shot was deflected into his own goal by Sunderland defender Anton Ferdinand in the dying seconds of injury time to deny the Black Cats the victory that they deserved at Old Trafford.

Player performances and cleats-

Darren Bent used his Umbro Speciali Statement football boots to score a stunning goal at Old Trafford in the 7th minute of their Premiership clash today ( October 3rd ) against champions Manchester United. This was the Sunderland striker’s 7th goal in 8 games, and he’s worn Umbro Speciali Statement football boots in White/Red for every single one of them. England manager Fabio Capello was watching his second Premiership game of the afternoon and must have been impressed by the former Tottenham front man, and maybe, just maybe, Bent may be being considered as a suitable strike partner for Rooney and the Three Lions in the upcoming 2010 South Africa World Cup.

Wayne Rooney wore the new colorway of the Nike Total 90 Laser II football boot in Silver/Red/Black in the 2-2 Premiership draw against Sunderland yesterday (October 3rd). Rooney, the Manchester United and England striker is Nike’s poster boy for the Total 90 Laser football boot range and this was the first time that he had worn the new Laser colourway in a match. The new boots didn’t help his scoring tear, as Rooney was quiet throughout the entirety of the game, and never had the opportunity to make a real impact on the match.

Dimitar Berbatov was on hand to score a fabulous equalizer, which he did by performing to perfection, the ever-difficult ‘bicycle kick.’ John O’Shea’s pin point long ball found the Bulgarian in the box, and the striker pulled off the exquisite over head volley wearing his Adidas Predator Powerswerve Champions League Star Edition boots.

Patrice Evra joined teammate Wayne Rooney, in a switch of boots. The left-back, who has been wearing the Kangaroo Leather Total 90 Laser II, has also swapped the old Nike ‘Back to Black’ cleats in exchange for the Silver/Red/Black colorway of the Nike Total 90 Laser II. Evra’s misplaced shot late in stoppage time saved the Red Devil’s a point when Anton Ferdinand, sibling of Red Devil center back Rio, turned the ball into his own net.

Nani was seen sporting the new color of the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly football boot in Blue/Silver/Obsidian. The latest cleats in the Nike Mercurial Vapor V collection weren’t put to much use in the first half, with Nani hardly posing a threat to the Black Cats defense. However, in the second half, Nani was on fire and his dazzling runs caused confusion amongst the Sunderland defenders. While not the ideal start for these new pair of boots, one of Nani’s runs did mark the beginning of his side’s first goal, and the play he started was eventually capped of by Dimitar Berbatov.
