With arguably two of the world’s greatest footballs at their disposal, Adidas are looking strong in the market. But which of their balls is the better? James Batchelor looks at them in-depth!
When the new Champions League Final ball was released, I was very shocked as it was not what I was expecting. I thought it would have the same panel design as the Jabulani ball but with stars printed on it. When I was looking at the photos, my eyes searched in vain for the trademark panels of the Jabulani ball but they were nowhere to be found. Instead the panels were shaped like stars. This brought me to the big question, how is the performance going to be effected?
Knowing Adidas I am sure that this ball will still be top class but which is the better ball, the Jabulani or the Adidas Finale X. Adidas say that the panel designs help make the ball perfectly round and fly faster and straighter but how can a completely different panel design have the same effect? Are these enhanced performance theories about ball panels a gimmick? If Adidas made the best possible ball they could for the World Cup, why would they completely change the ball panel design for the Champions League?
