Our Kit Flashback posts have been out of the picture for awhile, but we are coming back with our biggest post to date featuring the 8 most talked about kits from the 2007/2008 season!
Today’s post will start off with one of my favorite Liverpool kits of all time. You know this is a nice kit when you wear it to practice, even three years after the release date and you still get compliments. The template and the colors help to make this Liverpool kit special. At the time this was Liverpool’s second ever black kit, and black kits always seem to be liked among fans. You can tell that black kits are popular as after the 2007/2008 season a black kit has featured in everyone of Liverpool’s kits for the past 3 seasons. Something you can’t see in this picture is the detailing. It seems like the kit is just black but if you are wearing it you can see there are shiny black vertical striples going down the center of the kit with Liverpool birds in them. To top it off, this kit (in my opinion) is one of the best fitting kits I have ever worn and that is due to this special template. (9/10)

As much as it pains me to say it, I was and still am a huge fan of this Manchester United kit. This stealthy Man United Kit was a huge hit among fans and I remember secretly admiring it when my friend would wear it to footy practice. Not only is the design special but so was the material. It was something I had and still haven’t ever seen on a soccer jersey. It was almost reminiscent to a basketball jersey’s material as well as being slightly translucent. Obviously the material didn’t go down to well with the players as we have never seen it made again by Nike. This material was also only used for Manchester United’s kit’s which was a bit strange. Overall, great kit and hope Manchester United go back to some more all black away kits.

When Nike took over from Hummel, I was extremely excited for Villa’s kits and truly was not disappointed. This has to be one of my favorite kits of all time. Although it may be quite surprising I love everything about it. Unfortunately since then, Nike’s kits for Villa seem to have gone down the pipe, maybe as they have been focusing on the ‘bigger’ teams. Something that is special about this kit is that it could easily fit in today and does not look out dated at all (maybe it would have to be a little tighter). I wish Villa had this as their home kit this year. Maybe Nike could cook up something similar for the 12/13 season.

Everton kits seem to be a big trend in these Kit Flashback posts, but this time for good reason. As you know from our previous Flashback posts I am a huge fan of this Umbro template and when it is dressed in my favorite color ‘blue’ it is a recipe for success (in my books). Along with looking good, this template is also very comfortable and breathable especially in the back which makes it great to perform in.

Le Coq Sportif do make some quality kits when they don’t try anything crazy. Often times the plainer the better, and this kit is a great example. Le Coq did not try to stuff all sorts of crazy colors into one kit but stuck to City’s original colors; the white and blue. I think this design is fantastic and the blue design across the badge looks really cool. I wonder if Le Coq Sportif regret not being City’s sponsor today!

This Newcastle kit has had me tossing and turning on whether I like it or not. Overall the colors are not bad, but I think the template makes the kit a bit over the top and slightly strange. It seems like there is a bit too much going on and adidas would have done better reducing the blue. Who misses the iconic Northern Rock sponsorship logo?

For all you conservative kit fans, this is the kit you should blame. This is Chelsea’s first and I believe one of the first fluorescent kits of the modern era. This kit has influenced many brands and Chelsea’s adidas design crew to use fluorescent colors in away and third kits. Honestly, at the time I thought this kit was awesome and ‘super cool’ but now I think it is a bit over the top and quite blinding. I wonder what Chelsea’s opposition thought when they played away!

A surprise addition to this week’s post is Errea’s Middlesbrough away kit. At the time, for a small brand I thought it was a great design. Although I’m not a fan of the white and gold colorway and believe that white and red would have looked better, I still really like the template. What do you guys think?
Well, we hope you have enjoyed our Kit Flashback post for this week. Feel free to disagree with my opinions below and comment on the kits you think that I missed out on. Also, email in your nominations for best kits as I will definitely feature them if they are sent in. “If you post it, they will come…”
Stay posted next Friday for the 06/07 season Kit Flashback!
