After one of the biggest cleat launches in history, people have found the Superfly to be faulty…

When the Nike Mercurial Superfly was debuted by Nike and Cristiano Ronaldo, there was so much buzz on the revolutionary cleat and how impossibly light it was, yet skeptics thought the cleat couldn’t withstand the tackles of the modern game. We saw how Didier Drogba and Luis Fabiano’s cleats ripped, however, we listened to Nike say it was a contained incident. Now Soccer.com and WorldSoccerShop.com are recalling their pairs of Superfly’s?

This is what a Soccer.com spokesman had to say earlier this week, when they began the recall,

“Unfortunately, despite more than 1300 hours of wear-testing and extensive athlete feedback in the development of the Mercurial Vapor Superfly, Nike recently identified a potential product integrity issue with the boots.

Due to the potential issue above and because Nike is committed to providing consumers with innovative performance technology and the highest quality products this boot will not be available on April 1st as originally advertised. Currently we do not have a revised delivery date from Nike for this model.â€

This is the first recall of Nike cleats I can think of, and how embarrasing it must be for them too. The interesting thing though is professional players are stilling wearing the Superfly’s in their matches, either because they like the cleat or they’re following their contract with Nike, I don’t know, but you still see tons of players sporting them.

Whatever the case, the Nike team are working hard to patch up the problems with the Superfly, but for now, you can buy the Mercurial Vapor V, which has not been affected by the recall, at soccer.com right here!
