Chelsea Manager Andre Villas-Boas recently addressed the issue of failed contract talks among some of the club’s top performers. According to the Portuguese manager, Nicolas Anelka, Solomon Kalou and Didier Drogba could all leave the club during the summer for free – a frightening thought for the Blues, who would lose millions in the process.
As talks between club and player continue to fall through, Chelsea are faced with the dilemma of whether to sell their top athletes to bring in some extra funds or continue to fight on for more contract renewings, while increasing the risk of players departing on free transfers.
The decisions of the three of Chelsea forwards could potentially hurt the club both on and off the pitch. Chelsea, who bought the trio for a combined price of around £50 million, would see millions of pounds fly away, as well as three important players for the club.
“We know these players are of higher importance.” Villas-Boas said. “The most important thing is for the club to try to defend its interests. It happens all the time”
The Chelsea boss conceded that the club would be looking to take the risky road of contract talks rather than safely sell the players to make a profit.
“That’s why the offers are on the table, apart from with Anelka, end of story. We will try to get them to reach an agreement. That’s why the talks are ongoing. We still have plenty of time.”
Chelsea will need to act fast to avoid losing out on million of pounds in a possible outcome that would hurt the reputation of the club immensely.

Great post!
But:
1. Anelka is not an African player he is French
2. Salomon not Solomon Kalou
caleb, where does it say anything about Anelka being african?
It was fixed after he pointed it out. Thanks Caleb!
