The Football Scarf – Proper Fan Gear

As you get ready to either attend your team’s game or watch their match on your television screen, you begin the process by getting your supporters gear together. Donning your personalized kit tends to be the action of choice for the avid fan, and there are even some that may also wear the shorts or even the socks (we call them…strange), but most every true fan has the one item that showcases your passion as you hold it high above your head- the scarf.

Since most of the scarves for your favorite team are distributed through their kit supplier (or the brand sponsoring a certain tournament), you might think that your only options are to find the best product that is available from NIKE, or Adidas, or whatever the company is. However, over the last few weeks, SR has been getting in touch with a few companies that offer extremely impressive scarves that you should be checking into as the season and your fan-fervor progresses.

For those of you that are looking for a company that offers scarves that will cover your national team allegiance, your club team preference, and even a few scarves dealing with sports that you typically would be unable to find scarves for, look no further than Ruffneck Scarves! They offer a massive selection for all of your scarf needs and they even have the ability to make custom scarves for you and your local squad. The best part about Ruffneck is that their scarves are markedly different from those that are released by some of the kit suppliers. Ruffneck were kind enough to send us two of their national team scarves and, as you can see, they are great looking!

We know that we will certainly be wearing the Sweden scarf the next time we see Ibrahimovich “retire” from International football. The Mexico scarf is also going to get a fair bit of wear considering a huge chunk of the players (and, my friends) that are in my fall football league are Hispanic players from Mexico. Both scarves will certainly help keep the chill at bay as the temperatures continue to drop, but they will also make great articles for the proper footy fan to showcase how much they care about the teams they support. Make sure you check out the Ruffneck Scarves Facebook page and let them know what you think of their great products!

Some of the best scarves on the market are scarves that are extremely limited and can only be acquired by attending an actual match. When I visited Portland, there was a van located outside Jeld-Wen Field that was only open for a small amount of time before and after every match that occurred. If you wanted a limited and very special t-shirt, scarf, or one of many other items to showcase your Portland Timbers passion, these special products were only available here. You cannot find these items online, and you cannot get these products from any store- making them something that is extremely meaningful to anyone lucky enough to get their hands on them.

Now, I am not positive, but I would like to think that many other teams across the world do this same thing. Does your local club have merchandise that is only available to the few of you lucky enough to attend a home game? Is it as cool as some of the stuff that Portland has available? If you are lucky enough to experience this with another club (or with Portland) we would love for you to showcase your gear in the comment section or on our Facebook page.

The other scarf that we were able to get is from our friends over at The College Sport Scarf. Here in America, many sports fans take more pride in a college team than any professional team that they know of. With that in mind, the College Sport Scarf created a fantastic scarf product for many of the most passionate fan-bases in College sports. As I have mentioned many times on Facebook and in a few articles, I will be representing SoccerReviews.com at the College Cup in December when the best four teams in college soccer battle it out for the national championship. This scarf will certainly be my “product of choice” when I am attending, and, because of the super-soft material used, it is my favorite of the products we received.

Although Virginia Tech only has a ‘slim to none’ chance of making the College Cup (especially since they exist in the uber-competitive ACC…think like the EPL in comparison to the Scottish Premier League or something), this scarf is absolutely fantastic. Go ahead and check out the College Sport Scarf’s Facebook page and do yourself a favor by snagging some of their amazingly high quality products.

So, show us a picture of your favorite scarf on our Facebook page or send us a link to your most memorable moment involving the true fan’s prized possession. Above is a small portion of my prized collection and I consider scarves to be one of the most important pieces of footy fandom. Do you think the scarf is as important as we do? Or do you just think it serves a purpose as a cold-weather accessory? Let us know!
