After one year passes by, a new one rolls around. Likewise with sports brands’ football collections. The individual brands usually design new collections of cleats/boots and apparel every year. The 2008-09 collections of many brands have just recently hit the shelves of stores, and Soccer Equipment Reviews has had the opportunity to review some boots from these new lines. We contacted Lotto Sport, an Italian sports and soccer brand, saying how much we loved their new pair of cleats, The Zhero Evolution Due. Corrine Babuel, Lotto’s Press & PR Executive, was very helpful and cooperative, and made it possible for Soccer Equipment Reviews to review Lotto‘s cleat.

Twist N’ Go- The Evolution Due created quite some hype in the soccer community with its Twist N’ Go technology. Twist N’ Go is a patented Lotto technology, created with the purpose to reduce player injuries. Twist N’ Go is an aluminum stud placed on the cleat’s sole, where the metatarsus is (ball of foot). It was designed to ‘twist’ with the player, therefore, reducing sprained ankles and such. When trying out the rotating stud on different surfaces and weather conditions, I spotted that on artificial surfaces, the stud does not twist as well as it does on grass pitches. However, the Twist N’ Go stud really does work, and I could definitely feel the stud twisting underneath my feet.

Comfort- Comfort is a vital aspect of any soccer cleat, and Soccer Equipment Reviews makes sure to test out all sides of a cleat before giving you any information. With the Zhero Evolution Due, the cleat’s upper has kind of a ‘plastic’ feel to it, which made me slightly nervous about its comfort. Despite the feel to it, the Evolution Due surprised me with outstanding comfort. It is not plastic, but created with microfiber material. I wore the cleat many times while playing soccer in it, and not once over that period of time did I get any blisters! Not only did the cleat refrain from giving me blisters, it molded around my foot in a matter of days. Lotto certainly struck a chord with Zhero Evolution Due’s comfort.

Water Repellent- I hate when my cleats absorb water. It makes me miserable playing a soccer game with wet feet and boots. Nevertheless, I put aside that fact, and played soccer in Lotto’s cleats on a cold, wet, and typical Shanghai day. The ground was covered with dew, and it was lightly raining. A perfect day to test the Zhero Evolution Due’s water repellency. Over the course of the day, the cleats retained a miniscule amount of water, but repelled all the rest with efficiency. I was not disappointed in the least with the cleats’ and their water repellency.

Weight- When first putting on the cleat, I was astonished by how light the Zhero Evolution Due was. The cleat weighs 9 oz so when wearing them on the field, I could barely feel a thing. It is so light compared to many other cleats, that the people at Soccer Equipment Reviews all want to buy a pair of the Evolution Dues just for their lightweight aspect.

Look- Lotto have released the collection, Red and White, and have tried out all their 2008-09 cleats in those colors. With no exception for the Zhero Evolution Due, the cleat was created with white as the main color, and a fiery red was placed on the sides and heel of the cleat. It has a classic yet modern look to it. The classic side comes with the traditional laces down the front, and a short tongue covering the top of the laces. I said in a post about the Nike Tiempos that the laces on the cleat threw off my shot, with the Zhero Evolution Due, no such occurrences happened. The laces did not impede my shooting at all. The modern look is the bright red begging to be looked at, and the ‘shine’ and glare the cleat produces. If you are looking for a completely modern Lotto cleat, you can check out the Zhero Gravity Due.

Grip- As I stated before, the Evolution Due has a plastic (microfiber) feel and look to it, but in the sense of grip, that is good. It’s good because with the plastic (microfiber) feel, the cleat slightly grips the ball, creating better touch and control. When dragging the Zhero Evolution across a ball, it stuck to the ball a little, showing that Lotto added control technology for its cleat.

With the Zhero Evolution Due, Lotto created a great cleat, and one of the best in the new 2008-09 collections. Luca Toni, an Italian and Bayern Munich player, and last years’ Bundesliga Golden Boot, wears these cleats. It’s a great cleat for any player, and I recommend you go buy a pair as quickly as you can. We’ll be looking to review more great Lotto products soon!
