Arsenal: Van Persie Is Trapped

Arsenal star Robin Van Persie diminished his club’s high spirits last month by revealing he wouldn’t be renewing his contract when it expires next year, with his sights, apparently, set on bigger, better things. But the Gunners’ management aren’t worried as the player’s ‘old age’ is unlikely to interest many of Europe’s top clubs.

Van Persie May Be Waving Goodbye Very Soon

Robin, whose contract expires in 11 months, turns 30 in August of 2013, making him an aging player rather than an upcoming starlet. This, sources at Arsenal say, is why few of the continent’s top clubs will be willing to meet the Dutchman’s demands of a four-year agreement.

“We are going to keep him and hold him to his current contract. When he is 30 it will be easier to re-sign him and in the last year we hope he will change his mind about wanting to leave.”

But the London-based club are making a massive gamble in which they could lose a large amount of money – if Van Persie receives a solid offer from another team after his contract with Arsenal expires, Wenger and his colleagues could miss out on over £20 million.

But with Robin making little secret of his distaste for Wenger, many believe Arsenal should offload their disgruntled player while they still can to avoid emerging in a year’s time short £10 or £20 million.

The 28-year-old forward made his feelings public on his personal website last month, revealing that he disagrees with his current manager “in many aspects…on the way Arsenal should move forward”.

Wenger’s biggest problem may not be a loss of money, however. If Van Persie’s poor feelings remain at the forefront of his mind throughout next season, Arsenal could see their prized player’s consistent level of performance disappear.

The Gunners will have to do everything in their power to escape from this mess unscathed – or, at least, with a bit of extra pocket change that could be used to fill the gap that will be left wide open once Robin leaves the Emirates.

What sort of bullshit is that? Completely made up quote, in fact I just lost a lot of respect for this site.

Another Gooner here…get him out. I’ve loved him for the past five years, bought his shirt, everything, but at this point I’d rather sign a few more players and say goodbye to Robin. This year he’ll just be a distraction, which we could certainly do without.
His words and actions recently have broken the hearts of the Arsenal faithful and even if something works out after this season, I still don’t want him.

As an Arsenal fan, I’m at the point right now where I don’t give a damn what happens with him. We just signed Podolski and Giroud, and now the concern should be getting Walcott a new contract before the likes of Liverpool or Chelsea come in and take him. He’s had one good season after a half dozen filled with injury and inconsistency. If he stays, then hopefully he will be a professional and play his best. If he wants to go then let him, but they’re not goin to get £20 million for him and he shouldn’t get paid what everyone says he is demanding.

I’m of the opinion he’ll leave at the end of the season

Regardless of what happens this season
