Boot Spotting: 30th April

Another weekend has gone by, which means it’s time for a new round of Soccer Reviews boot spots! We’re closing in on the real business end of the EPL season, and while some leagues played their final games this weekend, we’ve still got 2 more weeks of sweet, sweet Premier League football! While a lot of attention is on the pitch, we take a look at this weekend’s greatest boot spots. Take a look at what caught our eye this week!

Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) – Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII

The in-your-face Bright Mango colourway has obviously been a big hit amongst the pros, but the boot’s headline player has now made the switch to the alternative Sail/Soar Mercurial Vapor VIII colourway. While CR7 is often known for his outlandish boot colourways, we love it when he matches a white pair of boots with his Real Madrid kit, much like the White/Blue/Volt Superfly III he was wearing before the Bright Mango MVIII. Now that Ronaldo is wearing the Sail/Soar MVIII colourway, we might see a lot more players in the fantastic colourway.

Robin Van Persie (Arsenal) – adidas Predator adiPower

While we’re seeing the all new adidas Predator LZ everywhere on the pitch at the moment (and highlighting a different zone of the boot each week), the staff at Soccer Reviews are left scratching our heads as one of the world’s most in form strikers hasn’t made the switch to the promotional White/Orange Predator LZ colourway. We anticipated that RVP would have worn the Predator LZ a last week that highlighted the ‘Sweetspot’ section of the boot, but it looks like we might have to wait until the boot is officially released until we see the Dutchman in the boots.

Kevin-Prince Boateng (AC Milan) – Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII

We’ve seen a lot of athletes make the move to the new Mercurial Vapor VIII, and Kevin-Prince Boateng is the latest in a long line of players making a move to the new MVIII. Boateng used to wear the Tiempo Legend IV before making the move to the new Vapor. We haven’t seen too many athletes make the move from the Tiempo to the Vapor VIII, so it’ll be interesting to see whether this is a permanent move from Boateng.

James McClean (Sunderland) – Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII (Custom)

The Bright Mango Mercurial Vapor VIII seems to be everywhere at the moment, and while we’ve seen the occasional star in the Sail/Soar colourway, James McClean decided he wasn’t a fan of the Bright Mango colourway. He made the switch from adiZeros to the Bright Mango MVIII when the boot was first released, but he’s now made an appearance in a Blue/White NikeID creation. We don’t expect this to be a general release colourway, but we secretly rate McClean’s customised boots!

Eljero Elia (Juventus) – adidas miCoach F50 adiZero

It’s always pretty exciting when you get a new pair of boots, we know it’s pretty sweet! But Eljero Elia got a little bit too excited when he received his brand new Blue/White/Red Predator LZs the other day, and he accidentally (or otherwise) put a photo of it up on his Twitter feed. It showed us that Elia is one of a number of athletes who will be wearing new boots in the next few weeks, and while he wore the miCoach F50 adiZero this week, those boots are in their last few games with the Dutchman.

Winston Reid (West Ham) – Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII (Custom)

We’re loving all of the Mercurial Vapor VIIIs that are making their way onto the pitch right now. But some players want something a bit different from the Bright Mango that everyone is seemingly wearing. Winston Reid is known to have a tendency to wear blacked out Mercurial Vapors, and for parts of this season, he’s been wearing blacked out Orion Blue Superfly Is. Reid has now given his Bright Mango MVIIIs the blackout treatment, and they actually don’t look half bad!

Angel Di Maria (Real Madrid) – adidas Predator LZ

We’ve seen a steady increase in the players wearing the promotional White/Orange Predator LZ colourway, which are expected to be officially launched on the 5th of May. Angel Di Maria made the switch to the new boot during Real Madrid’s match against Bayern Munich on Wednesday, and he brought the boot out on the weekend as Madrid took on Sevilla in a thoroughly entertaining affair. Di Maria’s LZs have the ‘Pass’ zone of the boot highlighted, which can be seen on the instep of the boot.

Mauricio Pinilla (Cagliari Calcio) – Umbro GT II Pro

It’s not too often that we see an Umbro boot used outside of the UK, but this colourway hasn’t been seen very often at all! Pinilla’s Black/White/Avid Green Umbro GT II Pros isn’t a colourway that we’ve seen on the feet of many athletes, and while it’s been officially released, many players have opted for the alternative colourways. We don’t think it’s that bad a looking boot, and it’s better than the Orange Popsicle GT II Pro we’ve seen around.

Sean Franklin (LA Galaxy) – Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly III (Custom)

Many of the Mercurial Vapor Superfly III colourways were pretty bright. Sean Franklin must have been thinking the same thing, as he created his own customised White/Black Superfly III. We think they look absolutely fantastic, and they suit his LA Galaxy home kit. While Franklin may be pressured by team mates to move to the updated Vapor VIII, we can understand why Franklin may keep his NikeID creation.

That’s it for this week’s boot spotting. What was your favourite spot this week? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I’ve got some Nikeid vapor VIII in sg ,whiteouts with grey laces and personalisation, the material is so nice, it’s got a leather finish rather than a suede, which makes the overall boot more comfortable 😉 BTW, got them friday, already used em, clean so easily 😉

My NikeID Vapor 8’s are due to arrive today. Like Reid, mine are Blackouts.

@Soccerreviews , I’ve made my own pair of Nikeid Nike Mercurial Vapor 8’s, and they come in a kanga-lite synthetic instead of the normal vapor synthetic. The kanga-lite is a lot more supportive, not as thin, and actually a bit more comfortable. This is probably why James McClean made his switch! 🙂 I’d love it if you made your own pair and made a review! 😀

Aaron Ramsey wore 11Pro’s in the arsenal stoke match , he used to be an adipower wearer and before the adipower he wore adipures !
