Giroud Shows Off Unreleased PUMA EvoSpeed 1.2

Arsenal and French star Olivier Giroud gave us a sneak peek at the launch colorway of the unreleased PUMA evoSpeed 1.2 football boots as he wore them in his most recent club training. Credit to Soccer Reviews reader AJ for the heads up and images courtesy of Stuart McFarlane.

Despite PUMA already releasing the evoSpeed 1.2 and allowing sponsored stars such as Radamel Falcao and Sergio Aguero to sport the boots on the pitch, we now get to see how the shoes will really look without the garish camo colorway obscuring the build and design.

The main and most obvious aesthetic change is the addition of the huge PUMA lettering on the instep of the boot, something quite similar to the Nike branding we see on the latest Mercurial Vapor. The launch colorway of the PUMA evoSpeed 1.2 appears to be a three tone color schematic, featuring a predominantly black upper with volt and turquoise detailing making for an extremely class boot.

Although we will have to wait until the upcoming launch for confirmed details, it is rumored that this edition of the PUMA speed boot range will be quite similar performance wise to its predecessor, the PUMA evoSpeed 1. If that is indeed the case, we can expect the upper to be comprised of a supersoft and ultrathin microfiber material, something that is all but confirmed in the closeup image of the shoes, whilst stability is provided by the internal EVERFIT cage that featured on the last model. The TPU injected external heel counter will offer good balance to the wearer while PUMA’s evoAptoLast will help make for an unrivaled fit.

The outsole will reportedly be made up of lightweight injected high performance thermoplastic elastomer (aka lightweight power) with the all new Pebax Speedtrack spine for improved reaction time and durability.

The weight that is being tossed around is 188 grams, or 6.6 ounces, firmly putting it in the upper echelons of speed boots. As noted in our in-depth PUMA evoSpeed 1 review though, The 6.5 ounces, while not the lightest weight on the market, is still incredibly light when compared to your average shoe and provides more substance in this world that is bent on the concept, less is more. If you are in the market for a lightweight boot, the evoSpeed while not the lightest boot available, does make up what it lacks in the weight department with other good performance features.”

The PUMA evoSpeed 1.2 Camo launch was an interesting and unique one indeed, and it has since been followed up by Falcao and Aguero giving the boots their on field debut this past weekend.

In terms of the design of the boot I am impressed given its overall look, cut and simplicity but the colour-scheme is absolutely garish and smacks of imitating Nike which is a very bad thing. Were they to release these in a simple black with white Formstripe scheme I’d snap them up in a heartbeat; whatever did happen to a simple solid colour with white detailing? The boot manufacturers must think us children or hyped up on ‘shrooms’ to enjoy such ghastly aesthetics.

Puma going along with nike with the big block letter branding. It’ll take getting used to for sure.

Worse part is, the Nike version kinda grows on you eventually. These are even more garish than the instep of the Vapors. Would a black upper and white stripe be too much to ask? Or something with 2 colors? The extra one just kills the boot.
